The seminar aims to explore the role of knowledge deriving from the past in the construction of narratives centered around the architectural project — narratives essential to elucidate contemporary design phenomena and to infuse past ones with new meanings. In today’s context that sees memory as able of stimulating, but also of obstructing the creative act, it proposes a critical reflection on the act of remembering, by means of history, as an epistemological and methodological tool. To remember then becomes not a static process of preservation, but an active one instead that reinforces interpretation. Architectural research and history often meet and intersect. This seminar considers their boundaries and means of exchange, in the light of the specificity and cultural relevance that a research project is called upon to express.
